Pat Cooligan

Pat Cooligan
At the age of only 5 years old, Pat was enrolled in martial arts. He explored many different styles and from a young age knew martial arts would have a profound impact on his life. In the mid 1990’s Pat, (like so many of his generation) was fascinated with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In 1995, he made the decision that martial arts would be his life’s work. In 2000 after 5 years of training, he began to sublet space in multiple locations and eventually founded his own organisation the Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts (OAMA).
In 1997 Pat met a man named Renzo Gracie. The introduction of this man to Pat’s life would alter the course of Pat’s next steps. Fast forward four years and Pat found himself in New York City training with Renzo routinely. Pat and Renzo fostered a relationship built on respect and trust and to this day flourishes. In 2007, Pat became a Professor after being awarded a Black Belt from Renzo becoming Renzo Gracie’s first ever Canadian Black Belt.
Pat opened his first Academy in 2003 independant of the original two locations he was teaching at. During the years of 2003-2010 Pat opened two additional schools taking the total to 3 locations. With this massive undertaking and the inevitable trials and tribulations, Pat founded REC Success, his martial arts consulting firm. Pat understood the benefit of working with consultants and aspired to assist others reach their martial art school dreams.
Matt "Hammer" Hache
Matt “Hammer” Hache began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Pat Cooligan in 2001 and quickly absorbed the teachings and lifestyle of a martial artist. Shortly after beginning his BJJ journey, he was given the nickname “Hammer” which serves as a reminder to Matt of some very important lessons. Fortunately, this lesson and many others are weaved into daily teachings that are shared with his students.
Although well versed and decorated on the competitor scene, Hammer found his true passion and calling through his love of teaching. Shining inspiration and belief through his lessons quickly aligned Hammer in a Senior Instructor role amongst Professor Pat’s Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts (OAMA) organisation. Hammer went on to become Professor Pat’s first Black Belt awarded by Renzo Gracie.
Hammer is now a highly accomplished school owner excelling in many areas of business including staff and student retention as well as kids programming. Hammer’s success ripples through the organisation and is noted through one of Canada’s largest Martial Art Summer Camps and After School Programs.
Now a 3rd degree black belt, Hammer has also been able to effectively demonstrate his ability to coach athletes and as such, has many students competing on an international level standing strongly on the podium.
Hammer is eager to onboard new students both in his facility as well as through consultation and looks forward to assisting schools in a multitude of ways.

Krystal Gignac
Krystal Gignac is a dedicated yoga mentor, student and instructor who’s personal experience of yoga’s promise to make life better inspires her to share the years of practice and information gathered with all who are interested. Krystal has studied and practiced all over the world and continues to research and learn each year in India amongst many other places. Krystal co-founded and operated her yoga facility in a small northern Ontario community building her business to a staggering six-figure income with over 300 students before selling the studio and focusing on consulting! while building a new yoga facility and mentoring existing and aspiring yoga studio owners to achieve their goals and dreams. Krystal officially joined the REC Success consulting team and together with their team continue to expand horizons for ambitious entrepreneurs looking to succeed. Krystal excels in building excellent yoga instructors with exquisite studio culture and great attention to detail. Whether you are inspired to open your own studio or academy or are looking for the next steps in evolution for your existing business, Krystal is confident and speaks from experience that you will be exceptionally directed by herself and the fantastic team at REC Success.
Adam Gignac
As a young boy, Adam was enrolled in many sports, predominantly hockey. After spending most of his time in the penalty box for fighting, his parents quickly decided to register him in martial arts and thus began his journey following his true passion. From Taekwondo to Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Adam explored many different arts until finding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
In 2007, Adam joined a facility and quickly realised that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was exactly what he was looking for. In 2014, he opened his own facility in North Bay Ontario Canada and quickly became the premier location for BJJ in his community. Professor Adam’s many years of success were expedited through the team and tutelage of REC Success.
In 2022, Adam sold his business to focus on consulting and work alongside REC Success founder, Pat Cooligan. This new endeavour maximised an opportunity to re-open a martial arts facility and to work as a dedicated Team Specialist with REC Success. Adam particularly enjoys assisting schools with the maximisation of Client Relation Management Softwares and his handyman skills allow for renovations and repairs to take place in an efficient way.
Adam’s entrepreneurial skills alongside his dedicated drive, allow him to surf the line of work and play. After just a few moments of witnessing one of Adam’s kids classes or a birthday party, it is easy to feel his contagiously fun nature and child-at-heart attitude.

Rob is a martial arts sales and marketing specialist. He has 11 years of martial arts experience, a decade working in a martial arts academy with over 300 members, and 6 years of digital marketing experience. Rob’s goal is to help school owners grow their business and thrive! In addition to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Rob is a father to 3 boys and enjoys living an active and healthy lifestyle.
